Langston Hughes wrote a series of essays entitled " I Wonder as I Wander", this blog is to celebrate that thought leader as I wonder as I wander. How much does life mean to you? not just your life but the life of all living things. Every living thing on this planet has value I believe that we should be evaluating the value of the life around us. How much do we value our life ? not just the physical aspect of living and breathing but the content of self your self do you value? The reason for this question is that we as a human race have never valued the lives of others. History has shown our disregard for others because of our desire to control and dominate. The Book of Genesis in the Bible states that Adam the first human was to have dominion over all the animals on Earth and God was specific what wasn't included was to have dominion over another individual. How can we say we love ourselves when we don't extend love to others. Jesus stated that about the concept of valuing the existence of others. There are so many horrific things happening in this world, so many ugly things said about other individuals that from my perch in life I see these acts cemented and manifested in selfishness and self=loathing. We have to define or redefine ourselves by looking at others and their differences that gives us a perverted sense of entitlement to perceive ourselves superior. We do that in class, ethnicity, race, sex, religion and education. We spend more times focusing on our differences and proclaiming ours is the RIGHT WAY!!! then celebrating our commonality and the fact we have the ability to perceive the events in our lives and the lives around us from within. Our perspectives can be molded by our environment or by other individuals who tap into our fragile psyches and determine for us what's best for us that we choose not to question. Think about this? Why do we as people believe in entitlement? It comes in many colors but the fact that we conceive in our minds that we are the chosen one(s). This thinking might have it's genesis in God choosing the Jews as His chosen people. So the rest of his creations he didn't care about why create them? This is where it all starts not wanting to be inclusive but exclusive in the eyes of the Creator. I truly believe that we have to re-examine what we have interpreted as what we consider to be the Truth about life and living specifically under the codes that we have set forth of exclusivity of one over another. If there is ever going to be peace on earth then there must be peace among men. The want and desire to celebrate not just our commonalities but our differences as well this makes us unique. We are squandering a great opportunity to be the example of what can be good we know what evil looks like we hear and see it everyday what will be our legacy as a human race? Only time will tell and the clock is rapidly ticking.
